The Independent Society of Musicians (ISM) is the UK’s largest representative non-union body for musicians and a nationally recognised subject association for music. Since 1882, they have been dedicated to promoting the importance of music and supporting those working in the music profession. 

About the client

ISM were referred to me after completing the NYJO rebrand. They had worked with a web agency on the inception of their new name and visual identity and approached me to amplify their rebrand, ensuring a harmonious and consistent experience across all their music-related communications.

With the number of assets required, this was a big project to take on alone so I called in the help of my designer friend Caz Cusumano and everything you see here was designed in collaboration with him.

About the project

We helped evolve ISM’s visual identity and fine-tuned the design of their new website to create a cohesive, engaging look that truly reflected their brand’s values. Caz and myself worked on a wide range of deliverables, from crafting dynamic assets for marketing campaigns to redesigning key publications such as Music Journal and industry reports. We also developed membership materials, including welcome packs and digital graphics, ensuring that every element aligned with ISM’s updated brand. By integrating the visual identity across both digital and print platforms, we helped create a seamless brand experience for their members and audience.

The refreshed visual identity and unified design helped ISM strengthen their brand presence and connect with their community in a more engaging way. The new marketing materials and redesigned publications significantly boosted their visibility, while the website became a central hub for their online presence, reflecting the modern, vibrant essence of the brand. As a result, ISM saw an increase in membership growth and stronger engagement across all platforms, helping them build a cohesive and lasting connection with their audience.
